Macau adds late LRT and bus services for the Mid-Autumn weekend

Macau is adding extra public transport across the Mid-Autumn Festival long weekend from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September 2026. The Transport Bureau (DSAT) says the Light Rapid Transit system and the city's two public-bus operators will strengthen services to move larger holiday crowds, with some temporary traffic controls and bus-stop arrangements also in place.

What changes on the LRT?

The Macau LRT will add trains and increase frequency across all three days of the holiday period. DSAT says the last train will depart at 23:59 on 25, 26 and 27 September. That gives people attending evening events, family gatherings or late dinners a clearer public-transport option than relying on normal finishing times.

Passengers should still check the LRT's current service information on the day, particularly if travelling close to the last departure. A 23:59 final service is a timetable endpoint, not a reason to arrive at a station at the last minute.

Which buses are running later?

On Friday 25 September, the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, 13 bus routes will extend their operating hours. DSAT says the listed final departures for those 13 routes will be extended to 01:00 on Saturday 26 September.

The official table lists the 01:00 extension for all 13 named routes, from the termini shown in the notice. Passengers should still check current operator notices through TCM or Transmac before a late trip in case operating arrangements change.

Five temporary routes return for the holiday

From 25 to 27 September, five seasonal routes will operate temporarily: 3BX, 17T, 21AT, 26AT and 101XS. Route 25AX will also have extended service hours over the same period.

One of those routes, 17T, was separately announced by DSAT as a crowd-relief service linking the Border Gate area with the Ruins of St Paul's zone. On the 25–27 September dates it is scheduled to operate from 09:00 to 13:00, at roughly 10–20 minute intervals. That can be useful for visitors arriving through the Border Gate and residents heading into the historic centre during the morning peak.

Why the extra capacity matters this weekend

The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on 25 September, with the following day listed as a Macao public holiday. The same weekend also includes major visitor events: the Macao International Fireworks Display Contest has a display on the evening of 25 September, while World Tourism Day activities are scheduled for 27 September.

DSAT says the transport reinforcement follows an assessment of expected passenger flows and coordination with the LRT company and the two bus operators. The bureau is also using temporary traffic controls around some activities, so road journeys can be affected even where a particular bus or LRT service is running normally.

Bus-stop changes in central Macau

The 23 September DSAT notice also flags temporary bus-stop distribution measures on Avenida do Infante D. Henrique and Rua do Visconde Paço de Arcos. In practical terms, that means people using stops in those areas should check the temporary boarding point rather than assuming their usual stop is unchanged.

Separate event-specific traffic measures can also apply around fireworks and other holiday activities. If a bus trip passes through the Macau Tower area or another major event zone, check the operator's same-day notice before setting out.

What residents and travellers should do

• Heading home late on 25 September: use the extended LRT and bus window, but check the exact last departure for your route.
• Crossing from the Border Gate: consider seasonal route 17T for the historic-centre corridor during its 09:00–13:00 operating window.
• Going to the fireworks: allow for temporary road and stop changes and expect heavier passenger flows before and after the display.
• Staying in Cotai or Taipa: the later LRT service may be the simplest option for evening travel, depending on your final destination.
• Using a central bus stop: verify the temporary stop arrangement, especially around Avenida do Infante D. Henrique and Rua do Visconde Paço de Arcos.

Golden Week measures are still to come

DSAT says it is separately preparing temporary traffic arrangements for the 1 October Golden Week period and will publish those details later. Travellers staying into early October should therefore treat the 25–27 September measures as a Mid-Autumn weekend plan, not as the full transport programme for the following holiday week.
