Macau has a humid subtropical climate: hot, sticky summers, a distinct typhoon season, and a short, mild, genuinely pleasant winter.
Macau's weather follows the same broad pattern as Hong Kong and southern China, just across the Pearl River Delta. There are really three seasons that matter for travel planning: a hot, humid, rain-and-typhoon-prone summer (May–September), a mild, dry, comfortable winter (December–February), and two short shoulder periods that bracket them.

Typhoon season
Macau uses a typhoon signal system (Signal 1, 3, 8, 9, 10) shared with Hong Kong, run by the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG). Signal 8 and above typically means schools, offices, ferries and sometimes the border crossings close — this most commonly affects late June through September. If you're travelling in this window, build in a flexible day and check forecasts close to departure, since ferry and flight schedules can shift at short notice.

- Summer (May–Sep): light, breathable clothing, a compact umbrella, sunscreen — indoor air-conditioning can be aggressively cold, so bring a light layer for casino floors and malls.
- Winter (Dec–Feb): a light jacket or sweater for evenings; daytime is usually comfortable in long sleeves.
- Year-round: comfortable walking shoes — the calçada pavement looks great but can be slippery when wet.
